My Lincoln Project Continues: MKS/2 Plug-In

Bringing Two-Tone Back! My newest Lincoln illustrated in Palm Springs with the available Copper and Pewter Luxury Group.

C H O P S — My latest Lincoln would be a sleek plug-in Hybrid, RWD/AWD replacement for their MKS. The MKS on sale now, at its core, is based on a Volvo platform, from the days Ford owned that Swedish marque. I used Volvo's new S60 sport sedan as the base for this sedan then. I extended the front end to make room for a brand-new Inline 6 EcoBoost, the first new inline engine from a domestic automaker in quite some time. I also extended the rear overhang for more trunk space and so the rear seat could be moved back a few inches for more legroom. Most obvious, perhaps, is a return to a classic two-tone paint job, in this case, the Copper and Pewter Luxury Group. Lincoln has a long history of designer packages and "luxury groups" based on colors and this bold 21st century interpretation just might help get New Lincoln noticed.

I placed this new Lincoln in front of a classic Mid Century Modern home in Palm Springs I found while Googling. I think you'll agree it's a classic pairing.

  1. My first comment went astray!

So, I love the color combination -- so evocative of those wonderful color options of the 70s! And the center-opening doors look so right on this car. I think the overall shape complements the new MKZ. Good work!

    1. Thanks, Paul! I was really trying to make it seem like a big brother to the new MKZ with that fastback roofline. It would be really interesting if Lincoln went with the full aero look, as opposed to some sort of Euro-chic or formal-chic. Making it the clearly futuristic alternative to Cadillac and BMW etc, just might work.

  2. The home reminds me of Mr. Frank Lloyd Wright, who happens to be my fav architect of the last century. I bet Ford regrets selling Volvo over to the Chinese, but with the extra money in the piggy bank they're cracking out the most attractive cars I've seen in a while.

  3. Love the subtle but rich two tone. The chrome dividing it is way better than the 70s two toning usually done with tape stripes . The house rocks also but for my money I'd like to see a '56 Premier convertible in huntsman red parked in front of it.,or better yet, the Lincoln Futura in its original form ! Marty

    1. Hey Marty! Nice to see you here again. Thanks for the kind words, as always! Yes, the Futura would look awesome here. I've seen online you're working on a Futura replica. That's such an awesome project! I have a Matchbox-sized Futura by Johnny Lightning, and the pale blue-ish white is replicated pretty darn accurately! It's listed in my "Labels" as either a $1.19 car of the week, or maybe $3.99 car of the week in my "main" blog, http://artandcolour.blogspot.com

If you'd ever like me to run any photos of your projects, or do a little write up, just let me know. I'd be thrilled. Hope you had a good 4th of July!
