Rolls-Royce Phantom Silver Brake: Limo Wagon!

Just the ticket for those high-speed, mid-Winter runs through Europe to Gstaad, this Rolls-Royce Phantom Silver Brake is ready to hit the cobblestoned roads of the ski slopes of the über rich. I've intentionally moved away from the Phantom's formality with a greatly enhanced glass area and extra-large rear hatch window—the better to keep an eye on those proletariat Mercedes Benz 4Matic wagons in its rear view mirror. As luxurious and as "over the top" as this large wagon seems to be in 2012, it really has exactly the same proportions as the full sized family wagons of the 1960s and '70s, the Country Squires and Kingswood Estates of our youth. I  tried to create a version of this Shooting Brake with wood on the sides, but just couldn't make it work!

  1. Brilliant! Now that Bentley is going to add an SUV to its lineup (based on the Porsche Cayenne -- I hope they extend the wheelbase to set it a bit apart from its stablemates -- Cayenne, Q7, Tourag), I think RR should expand its lineup in this direction. This is really an exceptional job that you've done here. I'd love to see a couple of your experiments with wood!

  2. Thanks, Paul! I was surprised how well the Phantom body worked as a wagon as soon as I did the initial photoshop sketching. The long rear side window's downward slope reminded me of the sloping two-toning that so many vintage Rollers have. And I certainly hope any Bentley SUV shares zero bodypanels with its platform mates!

  3. Now that's an ENGLISH CAR by pure definition from front to end. Also, I am hearing Julie Andrews sing a score from the Sound of Music with that spectacular background. I can picture Sir Anthony Hopkins behind the wheel or Mr. Casey himself, both classy people!

  4. thanks, Woody! I made certain to place the car in the Alps!

  5. I think I would have rather taken this gem of a car to Gstaad than the 'wig-waggly' little train that got me there. It was in summer for tennis, not the high season of skiing. Love the color as well. It matches my eyes. ;)

  7. Nicely done, as usual. Imagine driving into the Churchill Downs parking lot with this. This makes me wonder what a Bentley Continental shooting brake would look like. (Hint hint.)

  8. thanks! I think there is a real Bentley Continental shooting brake. Google it. I've done some Bentley hatches, large and small. I think if you click on Bentley in the Labels, either this blog or the original blog, you'll find them. A really swoopy longroof fastback Bentley might be hot, even if it didn't carry very much. Skis, maybe, lol?
