Jaguar XP Shooting Brake

Jaguar XP Shooting Brake—Jaguar recently introduced a new concept car, the C-X16 sports car. It's a very pretty car, and supposedly headed for production as a "little brother" to the XK series of sports coupes. Personally, I think it looks too much like the XK. I think Jaguar should differentiate the two sports cars lines a bit more. I've given the C-X16 a long-roof design, or Shooting Brake bodystyle, although it would remain a 2-seater, albeit with more luggage room. Bespoke British fitted luggage, anyone? Click the image to enlarge.

I've also given it a new name, the XP series. I can't be sure, but I think that Jaguar's recent concept names are a clue: C-X16: The "C" probably stands for "concept;" the "X" is the first part of the typical Jaguar name, XF, XJ, and XK; and I think that "16 " stands for the 16th letter of the alphabet, "P." I might be entirely wrong, but I'm betting the new small sports car by Jaguar will be known as the XP series. Not exactly catchy or evocative but entirely "contemporary" nomenclature.

  1. Wonderful idea and execution of what Jaguar should offer to the road hungry public. Originality seems to be forgotten, Jaguar needs this path to keep one step ahead of everyone else. The Z3 shooting break historically plays no significance in the BMW line, this one does.

XP sounds cool, but I wonder if Bill Gates get it confused with his old OS, lol.

  2. I love the background. Is it wrong for me to say that? I think I like the old Jaguars when they were absolutely unique and didn't resemble any other car on the road.

  3. not at all, Annie! That's a scan of a piece of scrapbook paper. Mary bought me a really big, 450 pages, book of scrapbook paper backgrounds. There are 3 of each and about 150 different patterns. I'm cutting them up in squares and beginning to use them as background on my cardboard quilts. This one scanned really well, so I'll probably do several more and use them for my cars too. Once they're scanned they can become any color too. This page was original in reds and oranges.

  4. Casey, I couldn't love this car more! Flawless execution. And I agree with Annie, I love the background too.

  5. thanks! This one was a lot of fun to make. I actually created the wheels from three separate "pieces." The wheels are from an Infiniti, and were stronger looking than the ones Jaguar used. I then added the large cross-drilled brake rotors from a product shot I found online, and then added the bright red Brembo brake disc calipers from another product shot. I love the way they turned out.
